Greetings From: The Girl At The Front Desk

Happy Monday! What better day of the week to start a blog than Monday? My name is Sarah Tapia; otherwise known as “the girl at the front desk”. I have been a medical receptionist for six years, for the same doctor. I have a lot to share and more to learn!

I am creating this blog for anyone who has been tossed into the field of reception /secretarial work, without previous training or know how; particularly in the medical realm. When I began this job I knew little to nothing about managing an office, let alone a doctor’s office.  I was a college student who had been bouncing around from job to job since high school, and had done nothing like office work.  My last job was working the jewelry counter at Mervyns’ for almost two years; until they shut down (RIP). Sure a lot of running an office is common sense, but it is also so, so easy to become overwhelmed with all of the information, and responsibility; at least for me it was.

I hope that blogging will help me vent a little. I get overly excited when I have an “aha!” moment, and then I look around, and realize that there is no one to tell. L I’m not saying that I always have the best ideas, and not all of my ideas will work for you, but we receptionist have to stick together. I really hope to meet some awesome people, and share each other’s office woes and victories.  What I don’t want this blog to be is a place to complain about: co-workers, clients, patients, employers etc. Frankly I’m tired of coming across whiny receptionist blogs. We are supposed to be problem solvers not problem dwellers! Every situation has a solution! (Stepping off my soapbox now) I hope this blog is what you are looking for, and I’m excited to see where it goes from here. Who knows, it may go nowhere. If nothing else I’ll get to brush up on my writing skills.

Until next time, The Girl At The Front Desk
